Grace period ends: drivers still running the revoked TRUCKSTAFF ELD now go out of service

The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration removed the TRUCKSTAFF ELD (model TRKSF, ELD identifier TRS227) from its list of registered electronic logging devices on June 23, 2026, citing the company's failure to meet the minimum requirements in 49 CFR Part 395, Appendix A to Subpart B.

As with other revocations, carriers were given up to 60 days to swap the device for one on FMCSA's Registered Devices list. That window closed on Aug. 23, 2026. FMCSA states that beginning on that date, motor carriers still using the revoked device are considered to be operating without an ELD, and safety officials are to cite 49 CFR 395.8(a)(1) - no record of duty status - and place the driver out of service.

During the 60-day window, FMCSA had encouraged inspectors not to cite drivers for the revoked device and instead to review hours of service using paper logs, logging software or the ELD's display as a backup. That leniency ended with the deadline.

This is a final enforcement action, not a proposal. It follows a separate Aug. 6 action in which FMCSA removed five more devices - MOONLIGHT ELD, HGRS ELD, HIGHEST ELD, TRUCKFORD ELD and Sparkle ELD - with a replacement deadline of Oct. 6, 2026.
