FMCSA revokes five more ELDs; carriers have until October 6 to replace them
On August 6, 2026, FMCSA removed five devices from its list of registered electronic logging devices: MOONLIGHT ELD (model MRS), HGRS ELD (model HGR), HIGHEST ELD (model HIG4ES), TRUCKFORD ELD (model TRS) and Sparkle ELD (model PT40SIM). The agency cited the providers' failure to meet the minimum requirements in 49 CFR part 395, Appendix A to Subpart B, the technical specification every ELD has to satisfy.
This is already in effect, not a proposal. FMCSA's instruction to motor carriers is to stop using the revoked devices and replace them with a compliant ELD from the Registered ELDs list before October 6, 2026. In the meantime, drivers on an affected device are expected to keep records of duty status on paper logs or logging software so hours-of-service records stay intact.
After the deadline, a driver still running a revoked device is treated as having no ELD at all. FMCSA's pattern on earlier revocations has been to announce that drivers found using the device will be cited and placed out of service, and the agency has been removing devices in batches through the summer, so this is unlikely to be the last round.
The current list of revoked devices, including these five, is maintained on FMCSA's ELD site.
What this means for your operation
For a 1–10 truck operation the exposure is simple: one revoked device on one truck is an out-of-service stop and an hours-of-service violation on your record once the 60-day window closes. Check the model and identifier on every unit against FMCSA's revoked list this week, not in October, and if you have to switch, budget time for the driver retraining and the data transfer. Keeping ELD registration, driver files and inspection follow-ups current is exactly the kind of recurring compliance work WeLink's safety and compliance team handles for carriers so it doesn't fall through the cracks between loads.
