CVSA's Operation Safe Driver Week begins July 12 with focus on reckless driving
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance's Operation Safe Driver Week runs July 12–18, 2026. During the week, law enforcement across North America steps up traffic enforcement and pulls over both commercial motor vehicle drivers and passenger vehicle drivers for high-risk driving behaviors.
CVSA lists the behaviors officers are looking for: speeding, distracted driving, following too closely, improper lane changes, failure to use a seat belt, impaired driving, fatigued driving, and failure to obey traffic control devices. This year's campaign puts special emphasis on reckless, careless and dangerous driving.
Unlike Roadcheck, this is not a vehicle-inspection blitz. It is a driver-behavior operation: officers observe how a truck is being driven and stop the driver, who may receive a warning or a citation. CVSA's stated goal is "to improve drivers' behaviors through education, traffic-enforcement strategies and driver interactions with law enforcement."
As a reference point, CVSA reported that the 2025 operation produced 3,230 warnings and 1,839 citations for commercial vehicle drivers, plus 345 warnings and 665 citations for passenger vehicle drivers.
What this means for your operation
A moving violation during this week lands in your drivers' inspection history and in your carrier's Unsafe Driving BASIC — one of the CSA categories that shippers, brokers and insurers actually look at. For a 1–10 truck operation there is no margin to absorb that. A short pre-week reminder to every driver — slow down, phone in the cradle, belt on, keep the gap — costs nothing. WeLink's safety team sends this kind of enforcement-week notice to the drivers of the carriers it supports and reviews any resulting violations for DataQ challenges where the facts support one.
